Life Story Work

Avalon gained and built upon her experience of completing therapeutic life story work whilst working with children in care and adopted children. Avalon is passionate about supporting children to understand their pasts, and have discussions about their life histories to gain more self-understanding and an improved sense of self.

Children who may require therapeutic life story work include children who are in care or who have been adopted. They are also children who may frequently ask questions about their family and their relationships, or who have experienced a significant event. Therapeutic Life Story is a directive intervention with planned sessions to help children gain more knowledge and understanding about their life. Avalon uses her skills as an experienced therapist to support children to stay emotionally regulated whilst processing, and further understanding their past experiences.

A life story book can also be created and given to the child as part of the therapeutic life story work. As much as possible, a detailed history from parents, carers and/or social services is required to complete this work.
